WEBTOON Entertainment Inc. (including its affiliates, hereinafter “WEBTOON,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you visit and interact with the pre-launch website, including its Pre-Order pages (the “Teaser Website”) for Marvel Comics Powered by WEBTOON (the “Service”).

This Privacy Policy specifically governs your pre-launch email registration and your purchase of a Marvel Comics Pre-Order Code (the “Pre-Order”). When the Service officially launches – and when you redeem your Pre-Order Code and create or sign in to a WEBTOON ACCOUNT –, the WEBTOON ACCOUNT Privacy Policy and the Marvel Comics Powered by WEBTOON Privacy Policy will replace this Privacy Policy and will govern your use of the Service and any personal information previously submitted through the Teaser Website. We will notify you in advance in accordance with Section 11.

MARVEL and associated marks are used under license by WEBTOON. WEBTOON and associated marks are trademarks of WEBTOON Entertainment Inc. or its affiliates.

The Teaser Website contains links to websites and services operated by Marvel or other third parties, including Marvel Unlimited and the Marvel Unlimited Help Center. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those websites and services, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please review the privacy policy of the relevant website or service.

1. Data Controllers

WEBTOON Entertainment Inc. and NAVER WEBTOON Ltd. share joint controllership of your personal information, which means both entities remain responsible for the privacy of your information and share information with each other to operate the Teaser Website efficiently and in compliance with applicable law. You may exercise your rights under applicable data protection law against either controller.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the following personal information through the Teaser Website:

  • Pre-launch email registration information: the email address you submit to receive news, updates, and marketing emails about the Service.
  • Pre-Order information: if you make a Pre-Order, the email address you provide to receive your Pre-Order Code and order-related notices, and your order details. Your payment card details you enter at checkout are collected and processed directly by our payment partner, Airwallex; we do not receive or store your full payment card number.
  • Inquiries: where you contact us, the information you provide in your inquiry and the contact details we need to respond.

When you visit the Teaser Website, we also temporarily process limited technical information, such as your IP address, the country from which you access it, and basic browser and device information. Our hosting and security provider processes this information on our behalf strictly to deliver and maintain the Teaser Website and to detect and block automated or abusive traffic. For these purposes, strictly necessary cookies may be set on your device. We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking technologies on the Teaser Website, we do not set analytics or advertising cookies, and we do not use this information for marketing or to build a profile of you.

The Teaser Website is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older (or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • send you news, updates, and marketing emails about the Service, including launch details and promotions;
  • process your Pre-Order, including taking payment through our payment processor, issuing and delivering your Pre-Order Code, sending you order-related emails (such as order confirmations, launch and redemption notices) and handling cancellations and refunds;
  • apply Pre-Order purchase limits and verify the status of Pre-Order Codes;
  • respond to your inquiries;
  • operate, maintain, and secure the Teaser Website, including detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, and security incidents; and
  • comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

For pre-launch email registration, we collect and use your email address on the basis of your consent, which you provide when you submit your email address to receive news, updates, and marketing emails about the Service. You may withdraw your consent at any time as described in Section 8; withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

Where you make a Pre-Order, we process your personal information as necessary to enter into and perform our contract with you — to process your order and payment, deliver and administer your Pre-Order Code, and provide customer support, including cancellations and refunds — and to comply with our legal obligations.

We process the limited technical information described in Section 2 as necessary to operate and secure the Teaser Website and to comply with our legal obligations.

5. Information Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell personal information collected through the Teaser Website, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising. We may share your personal information in the following circumstances:

  • Affiliated companies: We share your personal information with NAVER WEBTOON Ltd., which is a joint controller of your personal information as described in Section 1, and with other affiliates for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
  • Service providers: third-party service providers that perform functions on our behalf under contract and in accordance with our instructions, including website hosting, content delivery and security, email delivery, and inquiry handling. These providers may not use your personal information for their own purposes. A list of our service providers is available upon request.
  • Payment partners: Airwallex, which processes your payment, and refund transactions as an independent controller for payment processing. Airwallex is responsible for its own handling of your payment information, as described in its privacy policy.
  • Legal requirements: when required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect rights, property, or safety.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or similar transaction.
  • With your consent: when you separately consent to or request such sharing.

6. International Data Transfers

Your personal information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in countries other than the country in which you reside, including the Republic of Korea and the United States. Those countries may not provide the same level of data protection as the country in which you reside. Where we transfer personal information internationally, we ensure that appropriate safeguards (such as an adequacy decision, appropriate contractual protections, derogations and/or privacy impact assessment) are in place as required by applicable data protection law. If you would like more information about our international transfers and the safeguards we have in place, please contact us as described in Section 10.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only for as long as is reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy and to satisfy any legal or regulatory obligations, and we do not retain personal information indefinitely. Following the expiry of the applicable retention period, we securely delete or anonymize your personal information.

We keep your email address for pre-launch registration until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. If you have not signed up for the Service and have not engaged with our emails for 24 consecutive months, we will delete your email address. If you sign up for the Service, we will retain your email address in accordance with the Marvel Comics Powered by WEBTOON Privacy Policy.

If you make a Pre-Order, we retain your Pre-Order information for as long as necessary to administer your Pre-Order — that is, until your Pre-Order Code is redeemed, refunded, or expires — and to fulfil the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. Thereafter, we retain order and transaction records only for as long as required to satisfy any legal obligations, after which we securely delete or de-identify them.

8. Your Rights and How to Exercise Them

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to obtain a copy of it, to object to or request the suspension or restriction of its processing, and to withdraw your consent. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

You may unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link included in every email we send. Please note that unsubscribing from marketing emails does not stop order-related emails about your Pre-Order, which we send as necessary to administer your Pre-Order. To exercise any other right, or to withdraw your consent, please contact us as described in Section 10. To protect your personal information, we may need to verify your identity, or the authority of an authorized agent acting on your behalf, before we act on a request, and we will respond within the period required by applicable law.

If we decline or are unable to fulfil your request, you may appeal our decision by contacting us as described in Section 10 and providing a detailed explanation for your appeal. You may also lodge a complaint with the competent privacy regulator, supervisory authority, or dispute mediation body in your jurisdiction.

9. How We Protect Your Information

We implement appropriate technical, administrative, and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, including controls over access rights, encryption of personal information in transit and, where appropriate, at rest, and measures to prevent, detect, and respond to malicious code and unauthorized access. While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
